The only horizontal acceleration on an object happens when your hand acclerates it from rest, its interesting to note that once an object leaves your hand it will not slow down horizontally. Lets do an example where an object is thrown horizontally, with no vertical force acting on it, to examine that type of situation.
As we all know gravity is a large factor in the acceleration of an object.
